Travel insurance feature in Omantel - Super app
Client:
Omantel
Timeframe:
1.5 months
Introduction
The project embarked on integrating a travel insurance purchasing feature within the Omantel app, utilizing services from Bima, an external provider. This endeavor aimed to offer Omantel users a seamless way to secure travel insurance, enhancing their overall app experience. A specific requirement set forth by the product owner was to include Oman as either the destination or departure location in the insurance options, presenting a unique challenge from the outset.
Research and Discovery
In the initial phase, our team conducted comprehensive market research to understand the travel insurance needs of Omantel’s diverse user base. This exploration revealed that the most intuitive and user-friendly insurance purchasing flows were found within airline apps. Inspired by these findings, we decided to model our solution on these best practices to ensure that our flow was as intuitive as possible for users, specifically accommodating the requirement to cater to users traveling to and from Oman.
Benchmarking
To validate the effectiveness of our proposed solution, we included a benchmarking section. This involved comparing our insurance purchasing flow with those of leading airline apps and other travel insurance providers
Define and Workshop Insights
With limited initial guidance from the product owner, we organized a series of workshops with the team to brainstorm and define project requirements, taking into account all edge cases found in the research phase.
Arichitecture Information
Additionally, we created an information architecture to better understand all edge cases in the project, aiming to ultimately create the best experience for the user.
Lo-Fi Flow
The next step was to create lo-fi screens based on the information architecture we had developed earlier
Delivery and Solution
Our solution was a meticulously crafted user flow that integrated Bima’s insurance offering within the Omantel app, respecting both brands’ visual and operational guidelines. A significant focus was on ensuring a smooth transition from Bima’s internal flow to the Omantel payment process, carefully addressing the change in button color to avoid user confusion.
Outcome
This project taught me the value of detailed research and collaborative workshops in overcoming design challenges. We succeeded in creating an intuitive and efficient travel insurance purchase experience, thanks to a user-centered design approach and a strong emphasis on seamless integration.
